Date production in the world is only confined to a small number of countries, most of them being the Arab countries. However, the date industry in the Arab world is not yet fully developed and concerted efforts are still needed to fully utilize the tremendous potential of date substances as ingredients in processed foods for export and the local market. But date products such as these should be developed on a technological basis which requires adequate characterisation of the chemical composition and textural properties of dates.LINK

The UAE has the largest number of fruit-bearing palm date trees in the Arab World, estimated at more than 16 million trees, official data showed Monday. The surge in the number of trees from less than 10 million 15 years ago was a result of a costly palming programme as part of an overall greening drive launched by late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
